C used to go to a centre once a week for over 10 years. He didn’t really like it there but didn’t stop going because there was nothing else offered. When he got his NDIS package and had lots of outings offered to him by Fairhaven, he told the centre that he didn’t want to go anymore and now he is doing the things he wants to do with his Fairhaven support worker. They go walking along the river, have fish and chips once a week and go to dancing lessons. He has also started collecting aluminium cans and his Fairhaven support worker takes him to the recycling centre to cash them in for pocket money.

We are looking for passionate people to join our disability support team in the Brisbane, Ipswich, and Toowoomba areas. Duties include providing domestic assistance, personal care in clients’ homes and assistance with accessing and participating in the community.
Success Stories
One of J’s goals was to do broadcasting. A Fairhaven support worker took her to a radio station not far from her home where she was able to do a mini-course for 3 weeks. J now realises that it isn’t for her and is now pursuing her love of photography with her Fairhaven support worker.
W had been living in supported accommodation and although he had support workers coming to him, he rarely left the property. When Fairhaven found out that his goal was to go fishing, they jumped right in to help him achieve that goal. First, they went to Kmart and bought the gear. Then they went fishing but didn’t catch anything. W’s support worker helped him to get a fishing license to fish in the dams around where he lives. Now he catches fish some of the time and sometimes he doesn’t. His support worker helps him research bait and types of fishing.
K is blind and had never left where he lived. Sometimes the staff of where he lived would buy him his snacks and drinks for his little fridge. He had become quite pale from sitting inside all the time. Now he goes with a support worker for his supplies and anything else he needs. Sometimes his support worker and he sit in the sun and enjoy a chat.
J used to walk around the property where he lived but was never confident to go out. Also, he didn’t have anyone to take him. Now with the NDIS and Fairhaven, he can explore the community he lives in. He loves going to museums and art gallerys and enjoys a drive to the country.
S has cerebral palsy and her NDIS goal is to walk. She used to walk but hasn’t had any support to help her achieve her goal since she broke her leg a few years ago. Now, with the NDIS and allied health professionals she had regular physio and exercises that her Fairhaven support worker does with her. She has gone from being mostly in a wheel chair to now using a walker from time to time and is getting stronger every day.
